Danish Nutraceutical Ingredient Company Fluxome Bases U.S. HQ at Univ. of Maryland BioPark

Baltimore, MD – 27 August 2012 - The University of Maryland BioPark announced today that Fluxome Inc., a nutraceutical ingredient company using novel metabolic engineering and fermentation methods, is the newest company to join the growing community of commercial tenants at the BioPark. According to Fluxome's lease with building owner Wexford Science & Technology, LLC, Fluxome has based its U.S. headquarters and commercial operations in the BioPark building at 801 West Baltimore Street in Baltimore.

Said Jane Shaab, University of Maryland Research Park Corporation Senior Vice President, "It's exciting to have another international tenant join us and it is especially rewarding to welcome Fluxome's President and CEO Angela Tsetsis, who was previously on the management team at Columbia-based Martek (now Royal DSM N.V.), back to Maryland's business community. Under Angela's leadership, Fluxome is an example of a next-generation Maryland life sciences company."

Fluxome, which was established in 2002 as a spinoff from the Technical University of Denmark (DTU), is the producer of pure and natural Fluxome® resveratrol. A science-based technology company, Fluxome's mission is to develop high-value ingredients that promote health and wellness from environmentally renewable sources.

"The BioPark and Baltimore immediately felt like a 'home' for Fluxome with the people, dynamics, and resources available in a convenient central location that support the development of establishing a presence in the United States," said Ms. Tsetsis, Fluxome President and Chief Executive Officer. "We are proud to be a part of the BioPark community and look forward to participating in the collaboration amongst the tenants and the University to further the interaction between academia and industry."

Resveratrol is a natural polyphenol compound that is produced by several types of plants as a protective response against environmental stress factors. Resveratrol is a potent antioxidant, also found in red wine, and by many considered the key to the "French Paradox" - the low incidence of heart disease in France despite a high-fat diet.

Fluxome® Resveratrol is natural and 98% pure form of trans-resveratrol from a safe renewable source. It is contaminant-free, allergen-free and easily incorporated into dietary supplements, nutritious foods, beverages, and cosmetics, without noticeably affecting taste, color or odor. Fluxome® Resveratrol is U.S. GRAS affirmed, European Novel Foods approved and Kosher certified.
