DB International establishes subsidiary in Brazil

21 September 2012 - DB International, the multinational engineering and consulting company in the Deutsche Bahn Group, is founding a new national company in South America: DB International Brasil. The experts at DB International have already been awarded contracts in Brazil. This next step will now consistently strengthen the company’s commitment in this strategic country.

DB International analyzed the efficiency of the Port of Santos in the state of São Paulo in 2011. It identified improvements and created a concept for the Ecopátio Cubatão multimodal logistics center located 18 kilometers away in the hinterland. It also developed master plans for the SuperVía (urban transit) and MetroRio (subway) local transportation companies in Rio de Janeiro. This year DB International was awarded a contract as part of another infrastructure project in Rio de Janeiro. The project is part of preparations for major sporting events to be held in Brazil: the 2014 FIFA World Cup and the 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Three multimodal passenger transport stations – Maracanã, São Cristóvão and Mangueira – are to be modernized from the ground up before the events.

DB International was awarded a strategic contract in the state of Minas Gerais soon after Brazilian president Dilma Rousseff announced an infrastructure program that calls for investing 54 billion euro in building a network of over 10,000 kilometers of rail and 7,000 kilometers of roads. The wholly-owned subsidiary of DB AG was selected from 37 national and international bidders to create a rail and logistics master plan for the north and northeast region of Minas Gerais.

Our expertise is also in demand in Brazil, where we are now establishing a permanent presence,” said Niko Warbanoff, Chairman of the Board of Managing Directors of DB International. “We will continue to build on our excellent contacts and expand our strategic position in the Brazilian market through our new national company.” Brazil offers the experts at DB International a very favorable environment in the context of rail, passenger and logistics projects. The Berlin company has several locations in Germany, the rest of Europe, Asia and the Middle East and now has a permanent office in South America.
