ENERCON inaugurates new concrete tower plant in Picardy, France; Creates 60 new jobs

- New facilities in France to produce up to 100 towers annually

19 October 2012 - Production is underway at ENERCON's new concrete tower factory in the province of Picardy, France. And the first precast concrete tower segments rolled out of the factory at the beginning of October. The "WEC Mâts Béton SAS" facility in the municipality of Longueil-Sainte-Marie (Oise), near the city of Compiègne, was officially inaugurated on Friday, 19 October. This event also marks the "Année franco-allemande" (French-German Year) on the occasion of the 50 year anniversary of the signing of the Elysée Treaty.

At the grand opening ceremony, ENERCON Managing Director, Hans-Dieter Kettwig, officially inaugurated the facility in the presence of invited customers, government officials, financial representatives and ENERCON employees. Kettwig praised the fine job accomplished by the companies, largely local firms, involved in the building project. Everything went according to plan and it took only 15 months to complete, between the cornerstone laying ceremony and production launch.

The new 18,000 m² plant is ENERCON's first production site in France and the first and only large-wind-turbine manufacturing plant in France. The plant was designed to produce up to 100 towers per year for wind energy projects on the French market. According to Peter Schuster, Managing Director ENERCON GmbH France, the site was chosen because of its advantageous location in terms of logistics. In addition to the central location in northern France, Longueil-Sainte-Marie also has good connections to the motorway, railway, primary A-roads and waterways which ENERCON intends to utilize not only for transporting the finished segments to the building sites but also for transporting raw materials to the factory.

With this new factory, ENERCON created 60 new jobs in Longueil-Sainte Marie and all new staff are already working there. ENERCON therfore has more than 450 employees throughout France with an upward trend.

There are now more than 950 ENERCON wind energy converters installed in France with an aggregate rated power of 1,800 MW. France is currently ENERCON's third largest international market. At present, ENERCON holds first place in the French market with a share of approximately 25%. Twenty-five decentralised Service stations with 100 Service teams are available to maintain and repair ENERCON turbines in various regions across France. More teams will be added as the number of installed ENERCON turbines grows, based on France's initiated energy change and long-term stable framework conditions.
