Timisoara - 19 November 2012 - Continental, one of the leading automotive suppliers worldwide, inaugurated its new R&D Centre today. The 30,000 square meter building accommodates over 2,000 employees and represents a 20 million Euros investment from the company’s side

“This R&D Centre features another important milestone in our history in Romania and it underlines the importance of our engineering and development capabilities for our global customer base,” said at the event Helmut Matschi, Member of the Executive Board of Continental and President of the Interior Division.

Today’s event is yet another sign of our commitment to Romania and how important it is on Continental’s map. It is a big pleasure to see how both, the plant and the R&D areas are developing, and since three months, they are now combined in the same location. Being accommodated now all in one location, our collaboration will be considerably increased. The move into the same location means that processes will be faster and more efficient, making us stronger and preparing us at the same time for any challenges that might appear on our way. This building allows further growth of our development activities which currently comprise about 2,000 employees in engineering in Timisoara,” declared Prof. Dr. Christian von Albrichsfeld, General Manager and Head of Research & Development Romania. “We thank our employees for their commitment and our management team, as well as the local authorities for all their support in achieving this goal“, added von Albrichsfeld.

The divisions of the Automotive Group (Chassis & Safety, Interior, Powertrain) develop and produce innovative software and hardware applications: engine management systems, transmission control units, electronic brake systems, multimedia and radio navigation systems, control units for hybrid vehicles, body controllers, digital tachograph systems, airbag control units and instrument clusters for the automotive industry. The three research & development centers in Timişoara, Sibiu and Iaşi and the three plants located in Timişoara, Sibiu and Brasov, represent an investment of approximately € 235 million investment in Romania by end of 2011, and created more than 5,200 jobs.
