15 November 2012 - Suzuki Philippines Incorporated, a subsidiary of the Suzuki Motor Corporation, has today held an opening ceremony of the new motorcycle plant, which had been under construction since July 2011.

The opening ceremony was attended by Osamu Suzuki, Chairman & CEO of the Suzuki Motor Corporation, welcoming guests, Adrian Cristobal, Undersecretary of Department of Trade and Industry and Managing Head of Board of Investments, Jeorge E.R. Ejercito Estregan, Governor of Laguna and Jaoquin Chipeco, Mayor of Calamba, where the new plant is located, and Toshinao Urabe, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Republic of the Philippines.

Suzuki Philippines’ motorcycles sales are growing steadily, marking approximately 97,000 units in FY2011 (113% year-on-year). In order to meet increasing demands for motorcycles in Philippines, the construction of the new plant with the annual production capacity of approximately 200,000 units had been carried forward in the Manila suburbs in Carmelray Industrial Park I.

Suzuki Philippines has been conducting knock-down production by importing major parts produced mainly in the ASEAN region. With the completion of the new plant, Suzuki Philippines will produce parts such as frames, mufflers, and tanks to raise the local procurement rate.
