Wärtsilä to Establish New Office in Doha, Qatar

- New office will provide a full range of sales and support services

28 November 2012 - In order to meet the increased demand from customers in Qatar, Dubai based Wärtsilä Gulf FZE, intends to establish a legal entity in Doha in the coming months. The new office will provide a full range of sales and support services.

Qatar is a rapidly growing market for Wärtsilä, particularly in shipping industry but Wärtsilä also sees potential to develop its land-based power plant business in Qatar. The key driving forces are the availability and development of Qatar’s huge LNG reserves and Qatar’s economical growth in general.

“Thanks to its vast potential, Qatar is an important market for Wärtsilä and our new office will enable us to be closer to our customers and hence we will be able to respond promptly and more cost effectively to their requirements”, said Seppo Hautajoki, Managing Director, Wärtsilä Gulf FZE.

Doha is the home of a number of state and privately owned large shipping companies and our new office demonstrates our intention to stay and grow in this market. Until now, we have served our customers in Qatar mainly from our facility in Dubai”, Mr Hautajoki added and emphasised Wärtsilä’s commitment to support and serve its customers in Qatar and other countries constituting the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC).

Wärtsilä is a global leader in complete lifecycle power solutions for the marine and energy markets. In 2011, Wärtsilä’s net sales totalled EUR 4.2 billion with approximately 18,000 employees. The company has operations in nearly 170 locations in 70 countries around the world. Wärtsilä is listed on the NASDAQ OMX Helsinki, Finland.
