Swedbank to establish new IT Competency Center in Vilnius, Lithuania

- Create 100 new jobs by the end of the year 

28 February 2013 - Swedbank is planning to establish an IT Competence Centre in Vilnius, Lithuania. The new centre will service the IT needs of the entire Bank Group and create up to a 100 new jobs by the end of the year. 

While considering the options for the location of the new centre, Swedbank conducted extensive research into the IT potential of the Baltic States and Sweden. Vilnius was chosen as the city which best meets the selected criteria. 

The establishment of an IT Competence Centre in Vilnius reflects the strength of our country’s IT sector and shows how Swedbank makes best use of the talent and expertise available in its home markets,” said Antanas Danys, Head of Swedbank Lithuania. “More and more of the bank’s services are being provided through networked platforms. This new center will not only provide high quality services; more importantly, it will also come up with new IT solutions.” 

According to Danys, the Competence Centre is designed to provide a long-term solution to IT problems. “Vilnius was singled out by all of the studies as a clear leader because it has the biggest IT sector and the largest, highly educated talent pool,” the Head of Swedbank Lithuania points out. 

The IT Competence Centre in Vilnius will be the first of its kind for the Swedbank Group. Currently, Swedbank Group employs about 1.5 thousand IT workers in total.
