Hitachi Opens Big Data Laboratory in Copenhagen

05 November 2014 – Hitachi has opened its new Big Data laboratory in Copenhagen, Denmark. It will develop new digital healthcare solutions in collaboration with the Danish hospital sector as well as support Denmark’s green transition with systems that lower CO2 emissions.

Strong Danish competencies within data availability, eHealth, smart city technologies and energy efficiency have been crucial in choosing Denmark as the place for Hitachi’s first Big Data laboratory in continental Europe. With modern digital infrastructure and a goal of being free from fossil fuels by 2050, Denmark offers great potential within a data-based approach to CO2 reductions.

Denmark is currently implementing a ‘Super Hospital’ concept that will entail the construction of 16 cutting-edge facilities throughout the country. Hitachi will be working with Frederiksberg University Hospital and Bispebjerg Hospital – scheduled to become the largest Super Hospital in Copenhagen by 2025.

Hitachi is one of the world’s most innovative companies. I welcome the establishment of the Big Data Lab in Copenhagen and appreciate the agreement with Bispebjerg and Frederiksberg Hospitals on joint development of data-based health solutions. This is a notable recognition of Danish industry strongholds within health-IT and smart cities. And a good example of how public-private partnerships can pave the way for innovative solutions to tomorrow’s challenges” says Mogens Jensen, Minister for Trade and Development Cooperation.

“It is a great honour to have this opportunity to contribute to improving the level of healthcare in Copenhagen by combining the Bispebjerg and Frederiksberg University Hospitals’ wealth of experience in hospital management with the Hitachi Group’s expertise and technologies”, says Yutaka Saito, Executive Vice President and Executive Officer at Hitachi.

With a turnover of 93.4 billion dollars in 2013 Japanese tech company Hitachi is one of the world’s largest multinationals. Hitachi is headquartered in Tokyo and employs more than 320,000 people. Hitachi develops and delivers high-tech solutions within healthcare, infrastructure, IT, telecommunications, automation and industrial machines.
